Jammin' in the Winds was created because of my strong passion for sharing the joy of music. Through my private woodwind / general music instruction programs, my primary goal as a music instructor is to provide my students the opportunity of discovering the joy of music while developing respected music skills by means of an individualized, comprehensive and well-balanced music education program. As a musician, my goal is to provide my listening audiences with musical experiences that touch their hearts and thrill their souls as they create and renew music memories to last a lifetime.
After studying woodwinds with Rosemary Lang at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana during the early 1980's, I became an active school volunteer while parenting my two children. I especially enjoyed helping with the school bands which led to the opening of my music studio. In addition to my private woodwind instruction and general music classes, I have also performed with church orchestras, hand bell choirs, various local Indy jazz bands, and Starbucks Coffee. I currently perform as a soloist for weddings and receptions, community events, business luncheons, holiday/birthday/retirement parties and retirement centers and am a former member of the Sarasota Jazz Big Band Ensemble and volunteer for the Sarasota Music Archive at the Selby Public Library.
My knowledge, experience, and comittment to music education has helped produce many successful young musicians who have consistently participated in:
- Indiana Regional Honor Bands
- The Indiana All-State Band
- The Indianapolis Youth Wind Ensemble
- ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) District and State Solo/Ensemble Music Contest with consistent First Place ratings
Most of my students have held Top Chair positions in their school bands and have received annual achievement awards from their band directors such as:
- The Director's Award
- The Most Improved Player Award
- The Most Valuable Player Award
- The Louis B. Armstrong Most Outstanding Jazz Musician Award
